Welcome to the Prairie City Race Series! 2008 will be the 13th season of our "grass roots" event. The races were started back in 1995 by Sherwood Gibson of VENTANA MOUNTAIN BIKES USA as a way to give back to the community and for everyone to have FUN. The first races had 60 to 70 riders each week... today we regularly get over 350 racers! We still have that fun grass roots feel in a first class, professionally run event. We try to provide mountain bike racing for EVERYONE! Registration Fee: $25 single $35 tandem (total) the first time you race if you pre-register on line. Add $10 if you wait and register at the race on race day. It is then only $12 single/$15 tandem per race after that. Only pre-registered racers will be guaranteed a T-shirt. NOTICE: As of 4/30/08 are OUT of t-shirts - we even gave out 125 more than promised! (Limited to first 600 and you must pick up your shirt by the second race) - after the second race we cannot guarantee you a T-shirt! Schwag bags are first come first served. On-line pre-registration is available but will close at 9:00am each Tuesday before that weeks race and will re-open each Thursday. Yes, you may start racing any time during the season with us. Sign up on-line and save yourself $10! You can also register at the event on any race day - but add $10 for race day registration. Registration note: You only need to register ONCE, but everyone will still need to sign in each race day. Click HERE to check the confirmed pre-registration list. Plan on racing the whole season? You may pay for all 12 races on the first race day and SAVE $20. This price ($137.00 if you register on-line or $147.00 if you register on race day) is good on the first race day only. Sorry, no refunds or credits if you drop out for some reason. If you are a minor you will need to have this WAIVER signed by your parent or legal guardian!
I would HIGHLY recommend getting to the your first
race of the season early for sign in and SCHWAG pick up!. Gates open at
4:00, registration
closes at 6:00 sharp! There is NO fee to enter the park and you do not need any type of
license to race with us! :-)

COURSE LAYOUT: Our races are held within the Prairie City Off Road Vehicle Park south of Folsom, CA. (see the map page for directions) or click HERE for an aerial view of the area at 9,000 feet. Each lap around the course is between 3 and 4 miles long. Beginners do 2 laps, Sport is 3 laps and Expert is 4 laps. The new Juniors race is 1 lap on the adult beginner course. The course gets a little LONGER and a little HARDER every week as your skill and fitness improve! Because of the numerous trails and dirt roadways on the property I am able to set up a different course each week. This makes for some exciting racing and keeps this 12-week series exciting and unpredictable! I set up the course using 12" high ORANGE plastic cones. If there is a sharp turn I place 2 or 3 orange and blue cones on their side "pointing" in the direction of the turn. If there is a steep drop or technical part of the track it will be preceded by orange and blue cones. Because there are so many different trails I ALWAYS recommend PRE-RIDING the course, this will help prevent you from making a mistake the first time around at "race speed". NOTE TO BEGINNERS: We will again be splitting the Beginners racers off of the main course on their own separate course for part of the lap. This will help the Beginners by not having to deal with excess traffic, passing of faster racers etc. We have three main hills on the course and I usually include at least one of these in the course each week. Typically, I leave the real steep ones for a little later in the season. One of these hills has a very steep decent and although it is somewhat short in distance, speeds of 40 mph by the Experts are not uncommon! There is plenty of single track and I prefer to keep you on it most of the time. I do usually start the first mile or so on a wider dirt road (or do a lap around the parking lot) so that the racers can sort themselves out a bit before hitting the tight single track. See ya out there!
